8-Year-Old Ohio Boy Watches YouTube Driving Tutorials, Takes Dad’s Car To McDonald’s

From learning how to build a house from the ground up to perfecting one’s javelin-tossing skills, there’s a YouTube tutorial for just about everything these days.

In perhaps one of the most stunning exemplars of this fact yet, an 8-year-old Ohio boy consulted with driving tutorials on YouTube before stealing the keys to his father’s van and hitting up a local McDonald’s over the weekend, reports The Weirton Daily Times. After several witnesses saw the boy driving downtown shortly after 8 p.m. — cruising along effortlessly and obeying all traffic lights — patrolman Jacob Koehler arrived on the scene.

When the boy pulled up to the drive-thru window — with his four-year-old sister in the passenger seat — and attempted to pay for a cheeseburger with the money he’d saved in his piggy bank, McDonald’s employees initially thought they were being pranked, Koehler told the Times

. He added that he was impressed by the little boy’s fast-learned driving acumen during the mile-and-a-half long expedition: “He didn’t hit a single thing on the way there. It was unreal.”

“With the way technology is anymore, kids will learn how to do anything and everything,” Koehler said. “This kid learned how to drive on YouTube. He probably looked it up for five minutes and then said it was time to go.”

The young boy and his sister received cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets while they waited for their grandparents to arrive and take them to the police station — where they were picked up by their parents later that evening with no charges filed.
