Boomerang SVOD Service Is Live With 1,000 Episodes Of Classic Cartoons

For fans of old-school cartoons, such as those produced by studios like Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros, a new subscription video on-demand service offers a massive library of classic content. Time Warner subsidiaries Turner and Warner Bros have officially launched Boomerang, which complements the Turner-operated TV channel of the same name.

Boomerang’s linear channel, which reached more than 43 million homes as of 2015, is a go-to source for cartoons. The Warner Bros library, which includes Looney Tunes as well as Hanna-Barbera hits like The Jetsons, makes up a big part of the cable hub’s offerings, and many of shows will be available on the new SVOD service, which has more than 1,000 total episodes available at launch.

Rather than serving as an extension of its eponymous TV channel, the Boomerang SVOD service is looking to attract subscribers with original content, including exclusive new episodes of Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, and Tom & Jerry and a reboot of the 60s series Wacky Races. For fans of those cartoons, or any cord-cutters who want to find an easy way to keep their kids entertained, the Boomerang SVOD’s $5-per-month price tag should be very attractive.

Turner has previous experience supporting its TV lineup within the SVOD space. Last year, it announced and launch FilmStruck, a service that provides a varied array of films to match the Turner Classic Movies cable hub.
