You Now Only Need 1,000 Subscribers To Do A Mobile YouTube Live Stream

After bringing live streaming to its mobile app last year, YouTube is expanding that feature so that more creators are able to use it. Previously, only channels with at least 10,000 subscribers could access mobile live streaming; now, the same privilege has been extended to channels in the 1,000-9,999 subscriber range.

YouTube first introduced mobile live streaming at last year’s VidCon. At the time, the feature — which is widely perceived as an answer to popular apps like Periscope and YouNow — was only available to a select group of creators. In February 2017, creators with five-digit subscriber counts or higher got their hands on the offering, with YouTube calling it “a more intimate and spontaneous way to share…thoughts, lives, and creativity.”

Now, with YouTube eager to encourage creators to try out its streams, the video site has dropped the barrier for entry into mobile live streaming once again. This YouTube support page explains the process for broadcasting directly from your phone or tablet and lists all the necessary requirements to use the feature. In addition to having at least 1,000 subscribers, interested creators must “confirm that your channel is verified and that you have no live stream restrictions in the last 90 days.”
