YouTube Kids To Fete Women’s History Month With Exclusive Playlists, Programming

YouTube Kids is getting into the spirit of Women’s History Month this March by tapping former United States Treasurer Rosie Rios to create a playlist honoring notable accomplishments by women in American history.

Rios, who served as the 43rd Treasurer under President Barack Obama for eight years, and who tendered her resignation last year, is perhaps best known for fighting to feature the image of a woman on U.S. currency. (Last April, it was announced that Harriet Tubman would replace Andrew Jackson on the face of the $20 bill, while a redesigned $10 bill will feature a montage of figures involved in the women’s suffrage movement.)

In honor of Women’s History Month, Rios has compiled a playlist for YouTube Kids titled Super Women Of Our Past (below), featuring figures she became familiar with in her research for the currency revamp. Among those included are former First Lady and human rights activist Eleanor Roosevelt

; the abolitionist Harriet Tubman; Susan B. Anthony, who played a pivotal role in the women’s suffrage movement; and computer science trailblazer Grace Hopper.

YouTube Kids will launch additional playlists and exclusive programming throughout March, the company said, including a Celebrate Women’s History Month playlist and a Celebrate International Women’s Day playlist.

All told, since its launch roughly two years ago, YouTube Kids now counts 8 million active weekly viewers and more than 30 billion lifetime views. At the same time, YouTube said last month that the first-ever original Red series are in the works for YouTube Kids, as is a smart TV app for LG and Samsung connected TVs.
