BBC Introduces The Curator Of A YouTube Playlist With 140 Million Views

If you are the sort of person who uses YouTube to find short, funny clips to share with your friends, you may already know about the “important videos” playlist. It’s a collection of more than 300 videos, most of which are just a few seconds long, curated by a YouTube user named eljolto. For fans of fails, bloopers, funny TV clips, memes, and other user-generated content, “important videos” is a veritable treasure trove that provides nonstop entertainment.

“Important videos” has become popular enough to draw more than 142 million views to its main playlist page, with most of the individual videos within it surpassing seven-digit view counts. Now, thanks to the BBC, the previously-anonymous curator of “important videos” has been unmasked. Eljolto’s real name is Eddie Jolton, and he’s a 19-year-old man whose affinity for short, funny videos has made him an unexpected Internet success story.

Jolton sat down for an interview for a BBC Trending segment and explained that he, like many other people who have become well-known through YouTube, is shocked at how big his most significant creation has become. “I just [put] all of the short videos and memes that I would send my friends in one place,” he explains. “I didn’t think it was gonna be as big as it was.”

As someone whose sense of humor aligns with Jolton’s, I’m certainly glad he chose to make his playlist public. More information about “important videos” is available through the BBC, and the playlist itself is embedded below. Good luck; only the strongest YouTube views can make it through all 311 videos.
