Vimeo Introduces All-New Smart TV Apps For Apple, Android, And Samsung

Online video platform Vimeo has launched all-new television apps for Apple, Android, and Samsung.

“The apps now provide a cinematic experience that gets viewers immediately watching videos hand-curated by our in-house team, featuring the amazing ad-free content uploaded by the best filmmakers on Vimeo,” said Will True, ‎the company’s senior product manager of TV apps, in a statement. “We want people to know they can launch the app, lean back onto the couch, and have something incredible start playing right away without having to hunt for it.”

Featured videos on the apps’ respective home pages will be updated daily and curated by the company’s editorial team. Other new features include autoplay, which will immediately kick off when viewers open the app, as well as easily accessible feeds and libraries, through which viewers can access the creators, categories, and channels they follow on Vimeo as well as their existing collection of purchased clips.

The apps for Apple tvOS and Android TV are available now, Vimeo says, while the Samsung Smart TV app will roll out in coming weeks.

At the same time, Vimeo has announced the release of its Staff Picks Best of the Year 2016 collection — a rundown of the curatorial team’s eight favorite originals of the year — which will also be featured prominently within the new TV apps.
