Verizon Names Former Maker Exec Erin McPherson VP Of Content And Strategy

Veteran digital media exec Erin McPherson has been tapped as Verizon’s new VP of content and strategy, the company announced today. She succeeds Terry Denson, Variety reports, who departed the role this summer after 12 years.

McPherson will now oversee Verizon’s programming, acquisitions, development, strategic partnerships, and original content across all platforms, according to Variety, including Fios TV and future OTT initiatives. She will be based in New York City and report to Verizon’s SVP of consumer products and new business development, Brian Angiolet.

McPherson previously served as chief content officer at Maker Studios, where she led a team of 150 staffers and oversaw studios, programming, original content, series development and sales, programming partnerships, talent relationships, branded entertainment, marketing, and editorial content on Maker.tv. She departed the company last summer. Prior to her role at Maker, McPherson served as VP and head of video programming and originals at Yahoo

, inking deals with content partners like ABC News, CBS, Paramount, and Saturday Night Live.

“Erin’s impressive experience with cross-platform media and entertainment coupled with a proven ability to oversee large content divisions gives us great confidence as she joins our team,” Angiolet told Variety of the hire. “We are excited to hire someone with her credentials to lead key initiatives inside this dynamic industry.”

Verizon has announced other notable hires within its video business in recent weeks. Last month, AwesomenessTV veteran Steve Woolf joined the go90 mobile video platform as head of programming. He will report to chief content officer Ivana Kirkbride, a former YouTube executive who joined go90 in July.
