Casey Neistat On What Kind Of Company He’s Launching With CNN: “I Have No Idea”

Celebrated vlogger Casey Neistat made enormous waves in the online video community earlier this week when it was announced he’d sold his fledgling social video app, Beme, to CNN for a reported $25 million. And after disclosing, just a week prior, that he was ending his daily vlog after filming his life for roughly 600 consecutive days, now Neistat is sharing some insight into all the changes that have transpired in his life and on his channel in recent weeks.

“I was genuinely bored — I was exhausted and creatively depleted when it came to making that vlog — and I felt that way for the last several months,” Neistat says of his decision to stop daily vlogging, adding that the CNN deal represented the perfect opportunity for him to step away from the grind.

In his latest video (below), Neistat also delves into the history of Beme — the founding of which he says was one of the scariest experiences of his life

given the millions of dollars raised to kickstart the venture as the prospect of failure perpetually loomed. While Beme is being shuttered as part of Neistat’s deal with CNN, he says he has “no idea” what he’s going to be making alongside the network. Rather, the deal represents more of a forging of a relationship between the two parties with specifics to be developed at a later date. In a release, CNN described the upcoming venture as a standalone media brand “dedicated to timely and topical video content powered by bleeding-edge mobile technology.”

Finally, Neistat addressed the financial aspects of the acquisition, stating that even though there are a lot of huge numbers being bandied about, “this is not winning the lottery. There are a lot of people involved in this…this deal is in no way just me.”
