Great Big Story Releases The First Of 12 Documentaries In Partnership With CNN Films

It’s been a year since the launch of Great Big Story, and the CNN-funded venture into millennial-facing video journalism has managed to carve out a decent-sized on audience, with 2.8 million followers on Facebook and 325,000 subscribers on YouTube. The next step in the outlet’s progression is a year-long project called Really Great Big Stories

, which will include 12 documentaries launched in partnership with CNN Films.

The Really Great Big Stories initiative, which Great Big Story announced during its first ever Newfronts presentation, builds off the success the startup has seen with short-form video. The first doc up in the lineup is “The Last Steps,” a 20-minute documentary from filmmaker Todd Douglas Miller that uses archival footage to explore the Apollo 17 moon landing — which stands as the last time humans set foot on a world other than our own.
