Instagram’s Snapchat Clone Is So Good That Snapchat Is Now Copying It Back

Back in August, Instagram announced the launch of a Stories feature that is, for all intents and purposes, a clone of the Snapchat feature of the same name. As it turns out, Instagram’s take on Snapchat’s disappearing media collages is so good that Snapchat itself is now adapting in order to keep up. The ephemeral messaging app has launched an update that lets users “rewind” Stories in order to catch videos or photos they missed.

The new feature caters to Snapchat users who tap through their Stories quickly in order to see what all their friends are up to. In employing this process, they often accidentally skip over Stories that, on second glance, seem worthy of a longer look. Rather than being forced to go all the way through their Stories before being able to access the update they missed, they can now tap on the left side of their screens to go back and replay the Stories they missed.

The new rewinding feature was already available on Instagram’s Stories, which have become popular since their launch. Bolstered by a few early celebrity users (including Kevin Hart and PewDiePie), Instagram Stories are now used by 100 million people per day, according to The Verge.
