Netflix Picks Up Justin Timberlake Concert Film, Taps New Drama Series Executive

Justin Timberlake is dancing his way onto Netflix. The streaming giant has secured the worldwide rights to Justin Timberlake And The Tennessee Kids, a concert film that will showcase the final date of Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience World Tour last year in Las Vegas.

The film was directed by Jonathan Demme, who is best known for cult horror classic The Silence of the Lambs, but who has also helmed concert documentaries for the Talking Heads and Neil Young. Justin Timberlake And The Tennessee Kids — which refers to the name of Timberlake’s backing band, dancers, and singers — will premiere next Tuesday at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 20/20 Experience World Tour, in support of the album of the same name, spanned more than two years and 134 stops. The film arrives on Netflix Oct. 12, and you can check out a trailer below.

In other Netflix news, the company has reportedly tapped veteran TV exec Tara Flynn to join its original series team, according to Deadline, where she will focus on the drama category and oversee both development and current programming. Flynn, who formerly served as VP of creative affairs at Fox 21 Television Studios, has worked on hit series including Homeland and Sons Of Anarchy. In her new role, she will report to Netflix’s VP of original series, Peter Friedlander.

Netflix also unveiled yesterday two trailers for its highly-anticipated Amanda Knox documentary — one titled Suspect Her and the other titled Believe Her. Amanda Knox, which is also having its world premiere at TIFF, arrives on Netflix on Sept. 30.
