Netflix Snags Show From ‘Mythbusters’ Crew As Its Content Push Continues

Among the original programming it has peddled to its subscribers, Netflix has picked up a number of sequel series, revivals, and new seasons of cancelled shows. Now, with its latest announcement, it has extended the lifespan of another TV hit — sort of. The subscription video on-demand service will be the home of White Rabbit Project, an unscripted series that will star former Mythbusters “interns” Kari Byron, Tory Belleci, and Grant Imahara.

The White Rabbit Project takes its name from the so-called “rabbit hole” its hosts will descend into as they explore interesting pop culture, science and history topics. According to Deadline, subjects covered by White Rabbit will include “jailbreaks, superpower technology, heists and crazy world war two weapons.”

Byron, Belleci, and Imahara gained fame as the three lab rats who helped Mythbusters hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman build and test the contraptions they needed to test out common theories and urban legends. Across 13 seasons, the three interns became as much a part of Mythbusters

’ appeal as the its two leading men, and they have remained in the public eye since departing the show simultaneously back in 2014. Mythbusters continued on for two seasons with new interns before airing its final episode in 2016.

While White Rabbit Project isn’t a sequel to Mythbusters, it will look to appeal to the same sort of crowd that enjoyed the long-running Discovery Channel series. It could take cues from Savage’s Tested YouTube channel, which showcases pop culture fabrication projects and has more than two million subscribers. Whatever White Rabbit‘s goals are, we’ll see how well it accomplishes them after it premieres on December 9th.
