Applications Are Now Open For Hank Green’s Internet Creators Guild

A week before the start of VidCon, the conference’s co-founder, Hank Green, announced the Internet Creators Guild. The ICG is a body that represents and protects online video content creators by providing them with the resources they need to protect their work and make a living of it — and now, it’s open for business. During a keynote address at VidCon, Green shared some details regarding the ICG and noted that it is now accepting applications.

Membership to the ICG costs $60 per year and comes with a variety of perks. The most important benefit is access to a handful of tools and services that will help guild members deal with contracts, brands, rights management issues, hateful commenters, the press, and many other areas that can otherwise be tricky to navigate. The leaders of the organization will be a board of directors consisting of several top creators, including board president Anna Akana, Olan Rogers, Aureylian, and Wengie.

Guild members will also be able to take advantage of several special offers. They will receive discounts on analytics programs like TubeBuddy and VidIQ as well as reduced price tickets for VidCon’s creator track.

As Green said during his keynote, the ICG’s goal is to serve “creators and creators only.” He plans for the guild “to be a voice on behalf of the people who are making stuff that is creating the value [in the online video industry].”

ICG membership is open to all creators who wish to make money from the videos they post online. According to an FAQ posted on the guild’s website, applicants will be screened to make sure “they are not primarily working for networks, advertisers, or platforms.” To register your application, or to get more information about the ICG, check out its website.
