The next original series to arrive on premium subscription service YouTube Red will ask its stars to Escape the Night. The upcoming murder-mystery, led by YouTube star Joey Graceffa, will feature a cast of digital video standouts who will gather together for a dinner party that turns into a murderous affair.
Much like the board game Clue and the cult comedy film it spawned, Escape the Night will be a period piece set in a old mansion. The mansion’s owner, played by Graceffa, invites 10 guests over for dinner. After a severed head is discovered on a serving platter, the party turns into a whodunit, with each guest transformed into a suspect.
A new trailer posted to the official YouTube Red channel gives potential viewers a taste of the intrigue to come. The guests, played by GloZell, iJustine, Lele Pons, Shane Dawson, Eva Gutowski, Andrea Brooks, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Matt Haag, Oli White, and Sierra Furtado, are all decked out in their best Roaring Twenties garb.
Graceffa, who has more than 6.2 million subscribers on his channel, has experience in the horror genre thanks to Storytellers, which began as a Kickstarter-funded series before getting picked up by Legendary Digital Media and StyleHaul for a second season. While Graceffa’s latest effort is being billed as “Clue for the YouTube generation,” it seems decidedly less campy than the gleefully silly 1985 film. Your mileage may vary on whether that’s a good thing.
Escape the Night will arrive on June 22nd. A subscription to YouTube Red costs $9.99 per month.
