Thanks to his YouTube videos, a Game of Thrones fan received a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Steve Love, a Canadian comedian known for his impressions, played a timid young soldier in the latest episode of HBO’s fantasy drama.
Love portrayed one of the four men slaughtered by Sandor “The Hound” Clegane in the first scene of Game of Thrones’ June 12th episode. Before his untimely demise, he was the victim of a practical joke carried out by one of his older colleagues. Videos of the scene are currently available on YouTube, though HBO could soon have them taken down.
Love, who hails from Ottawa, first went viral in 2012, when a video of his spot-on Game of Thrones impressions
hit YouTube. He has since returned with a new impression video for each successive Thrones season, with some installments generating millions of views. He has also offered his impressions of characters from several other shows, including Breaking Bad and Family Guy.As Love explained on Twitter, his impressions caught the attention of David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the Game of Thrones show-running duo often referred to as “D&D.” From there, Love earned his brief role, which required to get rather close with one of his co-stars.
Given his character’s grisly death, it’s safe to say we won’t see Love on Game of Thrones again. Still, a cameo on premium cable’s most popular show and a memorable decapitation at the hands of The Hound isn’t a bad deal at all — and Love has YouTube to thank for his experience.
