Amazon Adds A Fourth Season For Its Hit Original Series ‘Transparent’

Amazon Studios is securing Transparent’s future for at least another season. The digital video company has renewed Jill Soloway‘s well-received family dramedy for a fourth season, which will premiere for Amazon Prime subscribers in 2017.

Transparent tells the story of Maura, played by Jeffrey Tambor, as she transitions to life as a woman. Maura’s ex-wife and three children also feature prominently in the show, with their own problems put on display.

Since its 2014, Transparent has received accolades from critics and has taken home several awards, with Tambor in particular winning a Golden Globe for his role in 2015. A second season, which premiered in December 2015, served as a solid sophomore performance for the show.

Given its strong critical reputation, Transparent has emerged as a rock within Amazon Studios’ burgeoning lineup of original content, and the video platform has made sure to keep its prized series renewed well ahead of schedule. A third season of Transparent was green-lit last June, almost six months before the show’s season two premiere. The upcoming round of episodes isn’t expected to arrive until the fall, which means the newly-announced fourth season of Transparent

is more than a year away from its projected premiere date.

“Amazon’s explosive freedom and revolutionary thinking has given birth to this show,” said Soloway in a press release. “It’s so much more than TV to us, it’s our version of the most ambitious streaming art we can conjure. We’re having the time of our lives sharing season two for the awards season hoopla, and editing and finishing up season three for a fall release. This news of an order for season four is so so sweet. The Pfeffermans have many more stories to tell and we can’t wait to keep making them.”

In the meantime, Amazon Studios has offered up plenty more programs for its viewing audience to peruse. The platform’s next round of competing pilots, including a pair of new hour-long drama projects, will arrive in June.
