Another YouTuber has followed the trend of his peers by starring in a feature film. Chris O’flyng, a 19-year-old with close to half-a-million subscribers on the world’s most popular video site, will play the lead role in Soul Reaper, an indie horror movie currently in production.
In Soul Reaper, O’flyng will play Mike, a brave protagonist who is stalked by a mysterious killer in the woods. O’flyng and Mike have several similarities between them: They’re both teenagers, and they both hail from Wisconsin. The film will be directed by James Crow, and 4Digital Media will oversee its distribution.
“It’s been my dream ever since I saw my first episode of Hannah Montana to be part of a larger production like this” said O’flyng in a press release. “Not only am I excited to be acting in Soul Reaper, but also to learn and discover what larger productions are all about more in depth. I’m anxious to show the world what my creative eye is all about and where I can take the character.”
O’flyng, who releases high-energy vlogs and other “Off The Rails” videos, has seen significant growth on his channel since launching it in September 2014. Since then, he has accrued 460,000 subscribers and 19 million views. He is represented by Matthew Martin at Scale Management.
No specific release date has been announced for Soul Reaper, but the film is expected to arrive sometime in 2017. In the meantime, O’flyng has provided updates with a few pictures he has shared from the film’s set.
