Study: Women Are Championing The Rise Of Streaming Services More Than Men

A new study from research group Miner & Co. Studio postulates that women are leading the charge into a new future of content streaming, as they continue to seek out female-centric programming that isn’t as readily available on regular cable.

The study, fielded in January among roughly 800 adults in the U.S., cites Netflix shows like Jessica Jones, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and reboots of Gilmore Girls and Fuller House as being at least partially responsible for the fact that women are leading a rise in the streaming space.

According to Miner & Co., original programming on these services is performing better among women than men, with 65% of females surveyed saying that subscription services “have original scripted series I want to watch” — as opposed to 53% of men.

And while streaming is growing across the board — 89% of participants agreed that streaming has changed television for the better — women perceive the quality of this content more highly than men, according to Miner, and are more likely than men to trust content recommended to them by streaming platforms. Women also find streaming more convenient and a better value than men do.

The top streaming platforms ranked by viewers, according to Miner, are Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO Go, and YouTube.
