Vine Gets In Touch With Its Artistic Side, Unveils Inaugural ‘Art Exhibit’

Micro video platform Vine is tapping into its artistic side. On its Explore page today, the service is highlighting a channel that it’s calling its first-ever Art Exhibit’ — featuring celebrated works of art from famous museums as seen through the quirky lens of Vine creators.

Paintings, sculptures, and other works come to life in the exhibit — with music and visual effects that have enabled creators to add their own unique spin on classic works, such as this reimagining of the Mona Lisa as well as the famed Venus de Milo.

Vine’s ‘Exhibit’ was apparently created in honor of #MuseumWeek, which is being billed as the “first worldwide cultural event on Twitter” — including, by extension, Periscope

and Vine. During the inaugural event last week, which generated hundreds of thousands of Tweets, museums and visitors alike posted on social media about different aspects of museum culture. Each day touted a different hashtag. On Monday, for instance, museums were encouraged to share well-kept secrets and other behind-the-scenes glimpses using the hashtag #secretsMW.

Top museums participated across the globe, including the Met, MoMA, the Guggenheim, and the Smithsonian stateside.

While the most popular loops proliferating across Vine often includes goofy dance trends like the Nae Nae and irresistibly adorable animals, its inaugural exhibit makes clear the plaform’s potential for high-brow and thought-provoking content. Take a stroll through the gallery right here.
