Snapchat is amping up its Geofilter offer (aka the filters accessed when swiping through a captured Snap that denotes the locale in which it was taken).
Now, in addition to Community Geofilters — a free option in which more than 500,000 Snapchatters thus far have submitted unbranded designs to reflect local landmarks and cities — Snapchat is launching On-Demand Geofilters, in which businesses or individuals can purchase Geofilters using logos and trademarks as a promotional tool. The feature is available today in the US, UK and Canada.
“On-Demand Geofilters let you create and publish a Geofilter for your party, wedding, business, or any other place or event,” according to a blog post announcing the feature.
Filters can be accessible for between one hour and thirty days. Pricing starts at $5, and depends on the size of the area in which users want the filter to be available as well as the length of availability.On-Demand Geofilters could represent a potential new revenue stream for Snapchat, especially after the company shuttered its two-month-old lens store, which enabled users to purchase the visual effects capabilities for 99 cents apiece.
