Netflix Picks Up Feature Film Starring Ellen Page, Allison Janney From Sundance

Netflix has a new movie to add to its roster of film titles. A full week before the official Sundance Film Festival, the streaming video platform has already picked up global streaming rights to the indie film Tallulah, starring Juno actresses Ellen Page and Allison Janney.

Directed by Orange Is the New Black writer and producer Sian Heder, Tallulah’s iMDB listing says the film is the story of a dissatisfied Beverly Hills housewife who hires a drifter named Tallulah (Page) to take care of her toddler. But Sundance (where the flick will make its world premiere on January 23, 2016) notes the film is more about Tallulah taking the baby to protect it from its negligent mother. Regardless of the exact premise, the action draws together three very different women, including Janney’s character who mistakenly believes the baby is her grandchild. The dramatic comedy Tallulah also stars Star Trek’s Zachary Quinto, Into the WoodsTammy Blanchard, and Orange is the New Black

’s Uzo Aduba.

Tallulah is only the most recent feature film Netflix has obtained in order to build up its original movies library. Its newest flick, The Ridiculous 6 starring Adam Sandler, is now the platform’s most-streamed movie of all time. Netflix also debuted Beasts of No Nation to three million viewers around the world and rave critical reviews. Upcoming Netflix original releases include Divanation (starring Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, and Diane Keaton), War Machine (starring Brad Pitt), and Pee-wee’s Big Holiday (the Paul Reubens-starrer is set to make its worldwide debut at SXSW in March).
