In its effort to be the leading self-distributor of the digital media revolution, VHX has signed up a shiny new partner to utilize the company’s Netflix-like subscription service platform. So, now would-be and hardcore fans of 20th Century, farcical horror films who were looking for opportunities to binge have a perfect destination in Troma Now.
Troma is best known as the production company behind cult-classic B-movies like The Toxic Avenger and Mother’s Day, but the company has recently become a force of online video with an active and ever-growing YouTube channel (currently with over 119,000 subscribers) of Troma-styled videos and even full feature films.
Founded in 1974 by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, Troma made its name with sex comedies like The First Turn On!! before its aforementioned, breakout hit The Toxic Avenger, which debuted in theaters in 1985 and has since inspired sequels, a TV series, and (maybe soon) a family-friendly remake. The legendary cult filmmakers are also responsible for Tromeo and Juliet, Terror Firmer, All I Need to Know about Filmmaking I Learned from the Toxic Avenger, Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV, and Sundance-adjacent Tromadance Festival.
Troma Now is composed of a rotating selection of feature film titles, as well as self-described bonus materials, Troma Classics, and the latest offerings and lost gems from the Troma Archive. You can subscribe at the film production and distribution company’s website for $5 per month.
