Funny Or Die Brings Cable-Style “Bundles” To Everyday Life In New Sketch

Funny or Die has a new video that cord-cutters and cord-nevers will likely appreciate. The comedy site, which boasts a YouTube channel of over 1.5 million subscribers and many more followers on its website, released a clip called “If Everything Was Bundled Like Cable,” starring David Koechner.

In the video, Koechner (known for his roles in Anchorman and The Office) plays an average American citizen who is bewildered by how he and his wife must pay for cable channels they don’t even watch. Koechner then finds out what it’s like in a world where bundles reign supreme. For example, an ice cream parlor refuses to sell Koechner individual scoops. Then his character is forced to pay $657 for all the spots in a parking lot, even though he only used one.

Funny or Die’s sketch, while comical, is also very poignant in its representation of the absurdity of cable companies’ bundling obsession. Analysts have pointed out how many consumers, especially millennials, are dropping their cable subscriptions (or even refusing to sign up for them in the first place) and opting for cheaper options like Netflix. And more recently, for the first time ever in the cable industry’s history, subscriber counts dropped in the first quarter of a year.

You can watch “If Everything Was Bundled Like Cable” on Funny or Die’s official site.
