YouTube Millionaires: Brodie Smith’s Trick Shots Are “Always Fun”

Welcome to YouTube Millionaires, where we profile channels that have recently crossed the one million subscriber mark. There are channels crossing this threshold every week, and each has a story to tell about YouTube success. Read previous installments of YouTube Millionaires here.

When it comes to trick shots, Brodie Smith is one of the best. The 27-year-old Chicagoan has parlayed his disc throwing skills into a career on YouTube, where his collection of Frisbee stunts, tips, and highlights has accrued more than one million subscribers. Smith, who also plays Ultimate Frisbee professionally, has opened up a number of exciting opportunities through his videos. For example, his partner network, Whistle Sports, recently announced The Ultimate Tour, which will send Smith around the world. Here’s what he had to say about his online fame:

BS: It is an incredible feeling. I want to thank everyone that has supported me along this crazy journey. If it wasn’t for you guys I wouldn’t be where I am today. So thank you!

TF: At what point did you realize you could turn Frisbee trick shots into a career?

BS: After I posted my first trick shot video and it received over 400,000 views in the first week I was pretty shocked. I decided to give it a shot and just see what happens.

TF: What has been the most interesting opportunity your trick shot skills have unlocked for you?

BS: Traveling the world and meeting amazing people along the way.

TF: Do you have a favorite trick shot you’ve pulled off?

BS: The Bat Shot:

TF: What has been the most fun part of working with other trick shot experts on YouTube?

BS: Challenging each other. We are all very competitive, so setting up impossible shots for each other is always fun.

TF: What do you think is the most common misconception people have about Ultimate Frisbee?

BS: We don’t throw frisbees to dogs, haha.

TF: On a similar note, what makes a great Ultimate Frisbee highlight?

BS: A terrible throw can lead to an incredible catch.

TF: Going forward, do you see yourself devoting more time to playing Ultimate Frisbee or creating videos about it?

BS: I have really missed playing Ultimate Frisbee at 100%. I got injured in 2012 and never really recovered. I have been playing the last couple of seasons banged up, so I’m really looking forward to playing at the best of my ability again.

TF: What’s next for your channel? Any fun plans?

BS: I just wrapped up a shoot with Devin Super Tramp‘s team and it will sure be EPIC!
