‘Firefly’ Stars Alan Tudyk, Nathan Fillion Seek $425,000 On Indiegogo For ‘Con Man’

Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion have each portrayed their share of memorable characters, but sci-fi fans known them best for their roles in Firefly, the short-lived but much-beloved space odyssey that aired on FOX in 2002. Since the show’s cancellation, its fans have clamored for more stories related to the crew of the spaceship Serenity. Now, Tudyk and Fillion are looking to appeal to those fans with an Indiegogo campaign for Con Man, a series that will follow its protagonist as he attends pop culture conventions.

Con Man isn’t explicitly related to Firefly, but its main characters are essentially fictional versions of Tudyk and Fillion. Both actors will play cast members from a short-lived sci-fi series called Spectrum, and the series will follow their adventures on the convention circuit. Tudyk will portray an actor best known for his role on Spectrum, while Fillion’s character is an “A-lister” who has managed to pick up other major credits. These roles are somewhat true to life; Fillion has starred in shows like Castle, but Tudyk is still best known for playing the Serenity’s pilot, Steve the Pirate

notwithstanding.

Tudyk and Fillion plan to release Con Man via Vimeo On Demand, which recently struck a deal to support content creators on Indiegogo. In order to fund the first three episodes, Tudyk and Fillion hope to raise $425,000. That’s an ambitious total, but far from an impossible one; in the first day of the Con Man campaign, fervent Firefly fans and other supporters have already contributed $80,000.

The Con Man pitch video includes more details about the project and features some cameos from other regulars on the convention circuit, such as fellow Firefly cast member Gina Torres, Seth Green, Felicia Day, and James Gunn. Between Tudyk, Green, and Day, that’s a dangerously high level of red hair.

The Con Man Indiegogo campaign will run until April 9th. Click here if you’d like to make a contribution.
