Description: The superhero story is a well-tread niche on the web, in part because the mythology surrounding that sub-genre is both incredibly rich and ripe for satire. The Super Alliance, which comes from Vancouver, Canada, is a strong addition to that catalog. It’s the story of a TV host who discovers his telekinetic powers and joins a misfit group of superheroes. The seven-episode first season was a fun, lo-fi tale with a nice balance of character development, sci-fi, and comedy.

Now, series creator Niv Ende and his team at Awkward Alien Productions are looking to fund a second season of their show. The biggest area where The Super Alliance has room to improve is its production values, and with the $7,000 Ende hopes to crowdfund on Indiegogo, he can make a bigger, shinier sequel to his intriguing debut. Here is the campaign’s pitch video, which features two of the lead actors as they reminisce about their superhero alter-egos:

Creator Bio: Ende is an Israeli filmmaker who began working on The Super Alliance while studying at university in Vancouver. A collection of his short films can be found on his Vimeo channel.

Best Perk: For $50, you can pick up the most important item in a superhero’s arsenal: A pair of tights.

Why You Should Fund It: The Super Alliance’s low budget affected its first season, but with deepened pockets and a larger team, Awkward Alien can create a slick product that still moves with the same verve as season one. The series is also notable as a showcase of its home city. In a press release, Ende noted Vancouver as an ideal setting for a superhero story. As he explains, two CW shows (The Flash and Arrow) are shot there.

For season two, Awkward Alien will combine its need for a bigger team with the local feel it loves so much. “We are committed to the art and design community of this city, and we love providing opportunities for artists to showcase their abilities on our series,” reads the Indiegogo campaign. The Super Alliance is a true indie series in every sense of the term, and superhero junkies would be wise to check it out.
