Amazon Gives Viewers One Day To Watch ‘Transparent’ For Free

Looking for something to do this weekend? Amazon has a suggestion. On Saturday, January 24th, all ten episodes of the award-winning dramedy Transparent will be available for free on Amazon Instant Video.

Normally, viewers who wish to watch Amazon’s catalog of original programs must own an Amazon Prime account, which costs $99 per year. For one day only, Amazon will waive not apply that requirement to its most acclaimed series, which received widespread critical praise when it debuted in September 24th.

The impetus for this promotion is Transparent‘s recent success at the Golden Globe Awards. It won a trophy for Best TV Series – Comedy or Musical, and star Jeffrey Tambor also earned a win in the Best Actor – Comedy or Musical category. Those two victories were Amazon Video’s first ever award triumphs. Since the Globes, interest in Transparent has soared, and its viewership has increased several times over.

“We’re incredibly proud of everyone involved in the making of Transparent–the team took a risk and it paid off,” said Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, in a release. “Big kudos and congrats to Jill, Jeffrey, and all the cast and crew.”

From the looks of it, Amazon hopes its Transparent promotion will convince consumers to pick up their own Amazon Prime subscriptions. To that end, Amazon is discounting Prime membership; for a limited time, the service will only cost $72 per year.

Transparent stars Tambor as a patriarch who is transitioning to life as a woman. At the same time, the series follows his three vain, spoiled children, who are all battling their own issues. The first season spans ten half-hour episodes. If you lack an Amazon Prime account and feel like having a lazy Saturday, Transparent is a fine viewing choice.
