Hank And John Green Launch 2014 Project For Awesome Indiegogo Campaign

Project For Awesome is back. The fundraising drive, which is run by Vlogbrothers hosts Hank Green and John Green and donates to charities chosen by YouTube fans, has begun its annual Indiegogo campaign.

As John Green explained in a video he posted last month, this year’s P4A will work a little differently from previous years. While a portion of the proceeds will still go to the top ten charities chosen by viewers, all of the funds raised during the first two days of the drive will go to Save the Children and Partners In Health. As John explained, this division was created to ensure that trolls couldn’t completely hijack the voting process, make it easier for deep-pocketed patrons to match donations, and assist a pair of dependable charities that won’t necessarily be represented by popular YouTubers.

Project For Awesome donations will go to those two charities until noon ET on December 13th, halfway through the 48-hour P4A lives stream. From then on, fans can vote for the YouTubers whose chosen charities they wish to support while also giving to the Indiegogo campaign. This part of the event will run through December 16th, at which point the total amount will be split among the top ten charities.

Last year’s Project For Awesome raised more than $869,000, and this year, Hank Green has even bigger goals on his mind. “The Project for Awesome is more evidence that online communities are real communities and they come together to make real change,” he said in a release. “To date, we’ve raised over $1 million for charities all around the world and our goal is to go above and beyond that figure this year through another successful fundraiser on Indiegogo.”

Rewards for this year’s campaign include gifts from the Vlogbrothers, Minute Physics, and Josh Sundquist, as well as a calendar featuring baby pictures of YouTubers. We encourage you to check out all the available perks and donate whatever you can over at the official Project For Awesome Indiegogo page.
