OK Go’s New Music Video Has Robot Unicycles And “Won’t Let You Down”

On October 14th, OK Go released Hungry Ghosts, their fourth studio album. New OK Go music also signals a new wave of creative music videos, and sure enough, the clever alt rock group has returned with another viral YouTube hit. OK Go’s latest music video, which accompanies the song “I Won’t Let You Down“, features everything from motorized unicycles to choreographed umbrella dances to Japanese pop star cameos.

The video for “I Won’t Let You Down”  was born out of a partnership with Honda, through which the four members of OK Go earned the chance to try out a futuristic Segway-like vehicle called the Uni-Cub. At the beginning of the five-minute video, OK Go receives its new toys alongside Japanese pop group Perfume, who are also known for their intricate music videos. The four members of the band then roll around on their Uni-Cubs while dancers open and close umbrellas in time with the music. A drone camera

provides incredible shots from above, including a mind-blowing finale completed with the help of a computer.

As OK Go explained on Today, the group first thought up the idea and then “play[ed] with it for a month” before creating the video. The Uni-Cub isn’t the first gadget OK Go has used in a video; the group is most famous for “Here It Goes Again“, which made clever use of treadmills and racked up tens of millions of views on YouTube.

More recently, OK Go created a video for “The Writing’s On The Wall“, another song off Hungry Ghosts. That video caused a disagreement with Apple, which used the same concept for a product launch video.

The “I Won’t Let You Down” video is already on its way toward become another big viral hit for OK Go. Before it’s done, it will draw millions of views and leave technophiles everywhere yearning for their own Uni-Cubs.
