CollegeHumor enlisted one bad mother #$*!er to narrate a video promoting the men’s health initiative Movember.
In “Why You Should Register for Movember”, Samuel L. Jackson berates a marathon runner named Tim because he failed to register for the movement, therefore forfeiting his first-place finish and voiding his world-record-breaking time. Jackson also breaks the news about the Tim’s lack of Movember registration to a young girl who thought the runner was a true hero for saving her life while still managing to finish the race. In the end, Tim realizes “signing up officially is always important.”
While produced in the true comedic style of CollegeHumor, the “Why You Should Register for Movember” video supports a very serious cause. Starting November 1, the Movember Foundation encourages participating men to grow just moustaches in November for the Movember Moustache Movement. The goal is to promote and raise awareness of men’s health, specifically in the areas of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health. In addition to the Jackson-narrated video, CollegeHumor also put together an in-house Movember Team to raise funds for the movement.
“Movember’s sensibility aligns extremely well with the CollegeHumor brand, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to leverage humor to help raise awareness and generate funds for such an important cause,” said Mike Mobley, Vice President of Media Sales for CollegeHumor’s Electus Digital, in the release. “We’re excited to be an official Movember partner this year and hope our fans and many others sign up to support the effort and grow a moustache along with us next month.”
Jackson’s video is the first of three Movember-related videos CollegeHumor plans to release in October as the movement’s exclusive digital content partner. One upcoming installment will feature actor Peter Sarsgaard of Jarhead and Garden State fame. All the videos and other related material will be available on CollegeHumor’s dedicated Movember hub, and you can sign up for the Movember Moustache Movement yourself at movember.com (Jackson recommends it, after all).
