Google’s Tom Pickett Leaves YouTube For New Role At Unnamed Company

Google has another pair of shoes to fill. Tom Pickett, the Vice President of YouTube Content, announced this week he’s departing the online video company for a new job.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Pickett told YouTube employees he was leaving his role to take a chief executive post at another company. Pickett didn’t reveal where he was headed, and he didn’t reply to the WSJ’s email request for a comment. The executive was responsible for YouTube’s policies, some recent actions (like YouTube Spaces), and management of content network relationships.

“Tom has played an important role over the last seven years growing YouTube’s operations and content partnership organizations,” YouTube said in a statement as reported by WSJ. “The strong team he has helped build will continue to focus on making our partners as successful as possible.”

Pickett is not the only employee to leave YouTube recently. WSJ notes two other executives from YouTube transferred over to the Google Fiber department, one resigned to work on his own startup, and another left to work for Spotify. This year alone, over dozen employees have left YouTube entirely or moved to other Google initiatives.

Despite these numbers, not many people regularly choose to leave Google and its subsidiaries. Combined with the fact that his new job location wasn’t mentioned, we’re curious to see where Pickett goes and what he ends up doing.
