Here Are The Highlights And Best Quotes From The 2014 Streamy Awards

Last night, the Streamy Awards honored the best online video content across 47 distinct categories. The three big winners were an action web series (Video Game High School), a vlogger (Tyler Oakley), and a Spanish-language comedy channel (Enchufe.TV), but the night was full of stars and memorable moments. Here are a few choice clips from the show, with some quotes from the people who defined them.

“Speaking of women, we are super excited to be considered them, because women have had some monumentous achievements in the digital space this year.” – Grace Helbig

Helbig and Hannah Hart shined as the first women to ever host the Streamy Awards. They highlighted a big year for female creators; this year’s Streamy Award winners included Jenna Marbles, Ingrid Nilsen, and Michelle Phan. Hart didn’t limit herself to hosting duties, either; she also took home an award for My Drunk Kitchen for the second year in a row.

“I want to thank the pepperoni company, Hormel.” – Steve Zaragoza

SourceFed also won a Streamy for the second year in a row, and it was Zaragoza who stole the show by carrying around an entire plate of pepperoni for the duration of the show. He was popular enough for some fans (including YouTuber Joe Miragliotta) to propose a Steve Zaragoza cam for next year. Sounds like a good idea to me.

“I got 99 problems, but you won’t be one, like what.” – Mitch Grassi

The Pentatonix alto nailed Iggy Azalea’s guest verse in Ariana Grande’s “Problem”. Pentatonix also won an award this year for their “Daft Punk Mashup” music video.

“I always felt like I never had a voice my entire life, and YouTube gave me that voice.” – Bethany Mota

Teenage fashion icon Mota added another award to his increasingly-full trophy case. Her acceptance speech was candid and eloquent; the upcoming Dancing With The Stars contestant reminded us why, at 18, she’s already one of the biggest stars on the Internet.

“Whenever I’m feeling like not making a YouTube video…I watch your videos and feel inspired.” – Shay Carl

As one of the most prominent vloggers on YouTube and a co-founder of Maker Studios, Shay Carl is among the most important people in online video. In accepting his ICON Award, he thanked his friends, many of whom were in attendance.

“If you’re feeling like you’re going through it, there are tons of people who care.” – Tyler Oakley

When he accepted his own ICON Award, Oakley made sure to remind his fans that they are “not alone.” That level of deep companionship has allowed Oakley to build up one of YouTube’s most devoted and dedicated audiences.

“There’s a lot of low hanging fruit. And by low hanging fruit I mean millions of dollars.” – Harley Morenstein

Morenstein and Epic Rap Battles of History co-creator Lloyd Ahlquist combined for the funniest presentation of the evening. As the man behind Epic Meal Time explained, the streets to YouTube stardom are now paved with gold.

“Viner of the Year, who voted, my dad?” – Brittany Furlan

Furlan cracked a few jokes of her own. The “Queen of Vine” showed of the one-line wit that has allowed her to accrue more than a billion total loops.

“This award goes to our audiences, from the 600 viewers that we had two years ago, to the seven million subscribers we have now, [spanning all of] Latin America.” – Enchufe.TV

The Ecuadorian team at Enchufe.TV offered definitive proof of YouTube’s global appeal by garnering more Audience Choice votes than any other show. The channel’s acceptance speech spanned two languages and thanked viewers across multiple continents.

“To the people at home, I don’t know what I would do without you.” – Tyler Oakley

In the end, this was Tyler Oakley’s night, and he concluded the award presentation with the same simple “thank you” that defines the relationship between creators and their fans. It provided a succinct ending to a celebratory night.
