Bernie Su’s ‘Frankenstein, M.D.’ Gets August 19th Release Date

The team that created The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Emma Approved is close to releasing its latest web series adaptation of classic literature. Pemberley Digital‘s Frankenstein, M.D., which will bring Mary Shelley’s most famous work to YouTube, will debut on August 19th through PBS Digital Studios.

Frankenstein, M.D. will bring Frankenstein to the modern age by reimagining its titular doctor as a Ph.D. student named Victoria. Dr. Frankenstein’s gender seems to be a calculated choice, since the majority of  Pemberley Digital’s fans are women. A press release regarding the series claims Victoria is “determined to prove herself in the male-dominated fields of science and medicine.”

Actress Anna Lore will portray Victoria, and she will be joined in the cast by SourceFed host Steve Zaragoza, who will play Igor analouge Iggy DeLacey. It’s OK To Be Smart host Joe Hanson is involved in the series as well; he will serve as Frankenstein, M.D.‘s science consultant.

gives our team at Pemberley Digital the exciting opportunity to take on a brand new genre for our literary-minded audience,” said Frankenstein, M.D. executive producer Bernie Su. “Our version of Mary Shelley’s all-time classic will re-imagine the legend of Dr. Frankenstein for a whole new generation of viewers.”

While Frankenstein, M.D. is still weeks away, its characters have already established themselves on social media platforms, thus utilizing Pemberley Digital’s innovative approach to interactive storytelling. Victoria’s Twitter profile already has more than a thousand followers, even before the release any content.

Frankenstein, M.D. will join PBS Digital Studios’ bustling YouTube library. The multi-channel network continues to debut new web series at a regular clip, with a graphic novel/radio play mash-up called Intergalactic Nemesis serving as the latest addition. Frankenstein, M.D. will add a scripted series to this library, and its first season will span 24 episodes, with a Halloween finale set to provide a spooky ending.
