Project Name: Teachers Lounge
Asking For: $50,000 on Kickstarter
Amount Raised Thus Far (At Time Of Post): $44,411
Days Remaining In Campaign (At Time Of Post): 2
Description: You would be hard pressed to find a web series with a simpler premise than Teachers Lounge. It follows a janitor and a music teacher who hang out in a teacher’s lounge and interact with their coworkers. Comedians Ted Alexandro and Hollis James will take the two lead roles, while each episode will also feature a guest appearance from one of Alexandro’s comedian friends. The guest list includes Jim Gaffigan, Lewis Black, Janeane Garofalo, and several others. A handful of familiar faces also grace the Teachers Lounge pitch video, where they give droll praise for Alexandro’s project.
Creator Bio: Alexandro, who hails from Queens, has scored appearances on several top late night programs, including CBS’ The Late Show, NBC’s Late Night, and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. James’s credit list includes a silly satire of the American heartland called “Merry Jesus Christmas“, which he created alongside Alexandro.
Best Perk: For $400, your name will appear on a whiteboard in the titular teacher’s lounge. Unfortunately, this will take up space that could otherwise be used for great running jokes.
Why You Should Fund It: The impressive number of famous comedians who will appear in Teacher’s Lounge does most of the talking. All of the funny people listed on the Kickstarter page support Alexandro’s vision, providing the series with some powerful celebrity testimonial. Of course, you’re welcome to make your own judgement by checking out Alexandro’s appearance on Conan, which can be found on YouTube.
Teachers Lounge is also very close to its goal with just a few hours left. In this case, each contributor has the opportunity to personally swing the series between success and failure. Now those are some high stakes.
