Wilson Bethel is starring in his second CW web series. A year and a half after he took the lead role in Stupid Hype, the Hart of Dixie regular has released the trailer for L.A. Rangers, a comedy that sends up famous movies.
L.A. Rangers is written and created by Bethel and Dugan O’Neal, who star as a pair of park rangers with dreams of becoming Hollywood filmmakers. To pass the time during their boring day jobs, they dream of their favorite movies and the versions they would make. The series trailer, released via The Hollywood Reporter, shows off a few of these homages, including Reservoir Dogs, The Matrix, Spirited Away, and The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly.
Just as Stupid Hype was a nostalgic celebration of the early 90s, L.A. Rangers will be a comedic look at some of Bethel and O’Neal’s favorite films. “We loved the idea of doing something that pays homage to cinema, so that was kind of the idea — to do something reverential of cinema in many different kinds of genres, styles and directors that we love, but in a fun, different kind of way,” Bethel told The Hollywood Reporter
.L.A. Rangers will debut on March 26th on CW Seed, the CW’s online video platform. If the seven ten-minute episodes are well-received, Bethel hopes the show might find its way to TV. “If we could do that with L.A. Rangers, we’d be thrilled,” he said.
TV-bound or not, Bethel’s series will join a growing library on CW Seed, which is also the home of shows like Husbands and an upcoming talk show from America’s Next Top Model judge Kelly Cutrone.
