It’s been 50 years since John F. Kennedy was assassinated, controversy still rages over the presence of a potential ‘second shooter‘, and there’s a new X-Men movie coming out soon. If you don’t see a potential viral video born from those three facts, well, you’re just not thinking like a marketer. The latest branded viral video for a major motion picture is an X-Men offering contending that it was Magneto who stood on the grassy knoll and assisted in President Kennedy’s assassination.
The video is titled ‘The Bent Bullet‘, and it postulates just what it says in the title–that Magneto used his powers to curve Lee Harvey Oswald’s bullet into the President’s body. Is it tasteless? Some people in the comments section think so
. One thing’s for sure–the video is guaranteed to draw a lot of buzz, no matter if such a flippant reimagining of an extremely tragic event is warranted. In case Magneto’s resemblance to Michael Fassbender wasn’t a big enough giveaway, ‘The Bent Bullet’ is a tie-in for X-Men: Days of Future Past, which will be released next May. With a campaign as bold as this one arriving so far in advance , we can expect a ton of X-Men material on YouTube in the weeks leading up to the film’s release.
