Countdown: The Six Best Reactions To The New YouTube Comments

It’s been twelve days since YouTube’s much-maligned comment system ‘upgrade’ went live. For your average expedient YouTuber, that’s more than enough time to compose a critical video response. While most reactions have taken the form of simple rants or signatures on a massive user petition, a few have stood out from the pack.

6. VLOG – YouTube Needs Chemo by TotalBiscuit, The Cynical Brit

British gamer TotalBiscuit is one of the creators who has chosen to disable comments on his videos in protest (another member of this group is top YouTube channel PewDiePie.) TotalBiscuit’s rant on the subject isn’t as vitriolic as others (and it shares screen time with a few rounds of Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft), but it’s a clear explanation of TotalBiscuit’s decision to not accept the new system.

5. PLEASE Fix YouTube and Google+ by Boogie2988

Out of all of the anti-YouTube screeds released over the past couple weeks, Boogie2988‘s has been among the most viewed. The gamer’s rant is notable because he isn’t overtly hateful and instead states his complaints in a reasonable, measured manner.

4. Thousands of Barack Obamas – YouTube Comments Lament by Schmoyoho

Boogie’s rant earned enough exposure to get picked up by The Gregory Brothers, who gave it their usual auto-tuned treatment.

3. YouTube Commenters Invade Conan’s Audience by Team Coco

Conan O’Brien poked fun at the new comments in a recent segment on Conan. The lighthearted video brings up a worthwhile point: No troll is going to be deterred because he has to use his ‘real’ name on Google+.

2. Meet the new YouTube comments (Parody) by RockaHype

YouTube’s introductory video for the new comments system has been besieged by hate, and this parody version gives viewers a more honest–if harsher–explanation.

1. My Thoughts On Google+ by Emma Blackery (NSFW Language)

This twee, mellifluous song about YouTube’s Google+ has gained a lot of attention, and for good reason. I never knew that the ukulele could power such a critical, incisive song.
