A thriving Machinima series is also a fanboy’s fantasy. Super Power Beat Down, which pits two fictional fighters against one another, has scored millions of views and just released its fourth episode, pitting Mortal Kombat‘s Scorpion against The Power Rangers‘ White Ranger.
Super Power Beat Down is directed by Aaron Schoenke, a fanboy in his own right who has created several Batman fan films. This time, he has reached the heart of every middle school debate, discussion board argument, and fanbase kerfuffle by creating action-packed scenarios that end with only one pop culture icon remaining. In the latest showdown, Schoenke even got the White Ranger himself, Jason David Frank, to reprise his old role.
So (spoiler alert!) the winner also happens to star in another Machinima series, which brings up the most brilliant part of Super Power Beat Down
. The show is a perfect canvas for any number of partnerships while also remaining a likable experience for viewers. It’s the ‘Man at Arms model’, and I expect to see plenty of YouTube-skewing franchises send their signature characters off to battle. If you’re interested in checking out more Super Power Beat Downs, there are three more battles that have appeared on Machinima, with many more still available on the series’ original YouTube home, Batinthesun. That channel is also home to plenty of alternate endings, so if you think your favorite character was robbed, you can always rewrite the death scenes to suit your wishes.
Or, if you really don’t care who wins or loses, just sit back and enjoy the fun.
