Comedy Central Studios Adds ‘Midnight Beast’ Among Six New Shows

CC Studios, the digital distribution wing of Comedy Central, is increasing the volume of its library with several new shows. In addition to three returning series, the online platform will house six original debuts from emerging talents, including YouTube-popular parodists Midnight Beast.

The six new shows draw their respective talent from a variety of sources. Some come from TV: Jillian Bell of Workaholics will play a spoiled adult brat in Idiotsitter, while former Punk’d writer Julia Wolov will voice an animated troublemaker in Biatches.

Others come from the web: English hip-hop comedians Midnight Beast have a prosperous YouTube channel, and CC Studios will become their new home; meanwhile, Jon Gabrus–who we recently saw on MSN’s Jon vs. College–will take one of the lead roles in Strong Island.

Video game review site GameTrailers will contribute Pixelheads, an animated sketch series focused on the world of video games, while Nerdist network podcaster Kurt Braunohler will take the last new series spot with an untitled interview show.

Full descriptions of all six new programs are available from The Hollywood Reporter.

Meanwhile, CC Studios has also renewed three existing programs. Bro-Dependent, which served as one of the platform’s launch titles back in January, will return, as will The Walsh Brothers’ Great & Secret Comedy Show. The final returnee is This Is Not Happening; we previously noted Ari Shaffir‘s wonderful storytelling series when it featured Epic Meal Time sauce boss Harley Morenstein, and Shaffir has already kicked off season two with a story about a time when he fought a girl.

“This slate represents an evolution of Comedy Central’s development process, collaborating across departments as we work with an incredible roster of talented comedians to create shareable content,” said CC Studios head Allison Kingsley. Kingsley better be ready for a busy time at work, because her platform is about to get a lot more lively.
