While Kanye West proposed to Kim Kardashian at San Francisco’s AT&T Park on October 21st, a rogue videographer used the scene to drum up support for his new platform. YouTube founder Chad Hurley filmed the ceremony and uploaded the video to MixBit, and this apparently does not fly with the wedded-couple-to-be. TMZ reports that Kim and Kanye are suing Hurley for shooting footage they didn’t want him to get.
Apparently, KimYe let Hurley stick around at the ceremony only after he signed a confidentiality agreement. They allege his MixBit video, which has now been viewed more than 1.62 million times, breeched that agreement. “Hurley proceeded to try to turn the event into one starring himself,” said the couple, “broadcasting the images he knew were the exclusive property rights of someone else.”
The couple believes Hurley used Kanye’s proposal as a publicity stunt for his new platform, an Instagram video competitor with a heavy focus on editing. That accusation is certainly spot on, but it’s unclear if Hurley’s actions actually represented a breach of contract. The newly engaged couple reportedly had plans for exclusive footage from the event to end up in the hands of MC Cable Television, the arm of Bunim/Murray and E! behind Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
