‘Fallout: Nuka Break’ Season 2 Brings The Post-Apocalypse To Machinima

The future of Mortal Kombat: Legacy may be in doubt, but as one fan-created web series has shrunk, another one has risen. The second season of Fallout: Nuka Break, a web series set in the Fallout universe and based off a successful fan film from 2011, has arrived in its entirety on Machinima.

The original Fallout: Nuka Break short film was released by Wayside Creations in January 2011, and it has drawn more than 2.5 million views to date. Jumping off the success of their original Fallout spin-off, Wayside turned Nuka Break into a full web series, which debuted in August of that year. In 2012, Wayside scored more than $130,000 via Kickstarter

for season two of the series.

At that point, Machinima came calling, and the top YouTube network began to work with Wayside on multiple productions. Machinima Prime served as the home for Wayside’s Portal web series, Aperture R&D, before hosting a second Fallout fan film, Fallout: Nuka Break – Red Star, earlier this year. The second season of the web series is the culmination of all of these releases, and all ten of its episode have been released at once to the main Machinima channel.

Nuka Break is a stylish imitation of the video game on which it is based. Its backdrop is a wonderfully rendered post-apocalyptic wasteland and the various classes that inhabit the game world–including wastelanders, slaves, Combine soldiers, and ghouls–are woven in. The icing on the cake? Fallout developer Bethesda has given the game its blessing, so there’s no risk of a cease-and-desist ruining a lovingly executed fan adaptation.
