#SMWLA Preview: Lessons From A Top Online Media Investor

From September 23-28, online companies, executives, and personalities will gather in Santa Monica for Social Media Week Los Angeles. To help showcase the incredible events that will be going down this year, Tubefilter will be offering daily previews of individual events. Check out the full schedule here and our schedule at a glance here.

At Social Media Week Los Angeles, one of the area’s top entrepreneurs will share his secrets. Mark Suster, a partner at Upfront Ventures, will deliver a keynote discussing his work as a regular investor in the online video space.

Until recently, Upfront Ventures was known as GRP Partners, and its investments include some of the online video industry’s top companies. Most notably, GRP/Upfront has regularly funded Maker Studios, and was among the venture films that combined to invest $36 million in the multi-channel network

last year. Another startup funded in part by GRP/Upfront, Epoxy.tv, is one of the most intriguing creator-oriented platforms to pop up in 2013.

Suster’s pedigree proves he is one of the online media space’s most forward thinking minds, and he has surely encountered a wide variety of experiences during his 14 years as an Upfront entrepreneur and partner. At the very least, he should be able to do a better job than the Upfront website of explaining why GRP changed its name.

The Mark Suster Keynote will go down on Thursday, September 26th at 11 AM at ROC Santa Monica. If you’re interested, you can sign up right here.
