Paul Reubens Stars In Trippy Sci-Fi Film On Nerdist

The Nerdist channel is currently serving as the main production team behind the upcoming YouTube Geek Week, but that isn’t stopping Chris Hardwick’s YouTube home from keeping up with its regular schedule. It is the home of The Final Moments Of Karl Brant, a dark, trippy sci-fi short film starring Pee-Wee Herman himself, Paul Reubens.

The Final Moments Of Karl Brant stars Reubens as a scientist who pioneers a method of resurrecting murder victims via some sort of mind uploading technology. In the film’s scenario, a recently murdered man discusses his death with a pair of detectives. Throw in a mysterious ending, and you have yourself a perfectly intriguing sci-fi film in the vein of Source Code.

“I’m excited about the idea of copying memories into code,” said director M.F. Wilson. “Imagine for a second that, after your body dies, you can go on living in a digital state. This technology, which is currently on the horizon, will challenge our definitions of life and death. It makes a great basis for a high-tech crime story.”

The Final Moments Of Karl Brant is also visually stunning, as it makes use of a hacked Xbox Kinect device to give some scenes a rounder, more 3D visual feel. If that is the future of sci-fi films, I’m ok with it, since I wouldn’t have to wear any more dumb glasses.

Nerdist has recently upped its efforts to distribute films, as evidenced by upcoming release Zero Charisma. The Final Moments Of Karl Brant is very professionally done, and its ambiguous, interesting plot is icing on the cake.
