YouTube Gets A Secret Retro Look For #GeekWeek

YouTube is prepping the world for its upcoming #GeekWeek (which begins on August 4) and in doing so just released a little bit of online ephemera that combines two things the internet loves. Easter eggs and nostalgia.

The world’s largest online video sharing site gave its 31+ million Twitter followers and other interested parties a code to crack on July 24. Check it out:

Individuals with a penchant for cryptography were able to crack the string of digits and, after inputting the result into YouTube’s search bar, were greeted with an old school, BBS, ASCII iteration of the site. If you want to see it too (Spoiler Alert), simply type in “/ geekweek” into the YouTube search bar. In fact “/ (insert whatever search term you like)” will work, too.

Pretty cool, right? And if the upcoming #GeekWeek videos from a number of YouTube’s top channels are as good as the marketing campaign, the initiative will be nothing short of shiny.
