Remember Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist? It’s a Street Fighter prequel by the team who made the popular fan film Street Fighter: Legacy. It caught our eye back in September thanks to its creators’ strong pedigree and a green light from Capcom, the company responsible for the popular collection of fighting games. We haven’t heard much from Assassin’s Fist since then, but now the series has resurfaced on Kickstarter, where it is seeking funds. A lot of funds.
The series creators are asking for £625,000, which, for those of you who haven’t converted currency since your last trip to Europe, comes out to about $950,000. If Assassin’s Fist were to reach this goal, it would become one of the most popular film/video projects in the site’s history. To help raise money, members of the series’ recently announced cast has appeared in videos where they give fans reasons why they should lend their support:
Let’s be real here: Assassin’s Fist won’t even come close to reaching its lofty goal. Right now, it has raised £12,000, which is nowhere near where its creators need to be with just 23 days remaining in the campaign. However, failing to achieve these funds is not the end of the world, as the series may get some big-time backers. “We have had other offers of significant finance from the ‘movie industry’ but this has come with ‘strings attached’ which would compromise the creative vision I have for Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist
: to give YOU the fans the Street Fighter movie you’ve always wanted,” said series creator Joey Ansah. “That’s not how I, or any of my team, roll!” Well, sorry Joey. If you ever want this series to get made, you’re going to have to compromise. Hey, taking money from movie people worked out for Forward Unto Dawn. As someone who wants to see what Assassin’s Fist would look like, I hope Ansah has a change of heart sooner rather than later.Hey YouTubers!
