Jerry Seinfeld, Ken Marino, Other Big Names Lead Webby Award Nominees

The Webby Awards, which celebrates the best Internet properties of the year, has announced the nominees for its 17th annual round of awards. While there are dozens of categories you can explore at your own leisure, the online video nominations are dominated by big names, with Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee and Ken Marino’s Burning Love both earning nods in multiple categories.

Seinfeld and Marino are two of the five nominees for Best Individual Performance. Two Academy Award winners–Jean Dujardin and Charlize Theron–are each nominated for their respective roles in Funny or Die videos. Rounding out the nominees is the upstart Lena Dunham, who earned a nod not for her web series work but for her appearance in a controversial Obama For America campaign. Seinfeld and Marino were joined by two more established stars, Neil Patrick Harris and Conan O’Brien, in the Best Comedy Series category. The fifth nominee there, Bad Lip Reading

, is one of the few major web series nominees without a celebrity lead.

The Best Web Personality category also features a few of our favorites, including Mike Rugnetta of PBS Idea Channel, Chris Hardwick of Nerdist’s All-Star Celebrity Bowling, Vice’s Fresh Off The Boat with Eddie Huang, and Above Average’s 7 Minutes In Heaven.

Several Streamys winners are nominated in other categories as well: H+ (Best Editing), Red Bull Stratos (Best Short Form Branded Entertainment and Best Event), Tom Hanks’ Electric City (Best Drama Series and Best Animated Series), and Kids React (Best Reality Series).

I’m mostly stoked about PBS Idea Channel getting nominated. I’m glad someone else is paying attention!
