For those of you who sport a Y chromosome, aren’t currently in elementary school, and don’t live with any particularly proactive females, here’s a reminded that Women’s History Month is going on right now and will continue through the rest of March. The White House and US Army YouTube channels have released videos celebrating leading ladies, but our favorite tribute to the women of the world came from Whirled, a creative agency whose Innovation video celebrates some of the most influential gals of the last 150 years.
The video shows off an inventive Rube Goldberg machine
that applies various symbolic conditions to an equally symbolic lightbulb. In between shots of this carefully constructed metaphor, a narrator discusses the accomplishments of many famous women, including Marie Curie, Madam C.J. Walker, and J.K. Rowling. Go ahead and take a look for yourself:It’s a fitting tribute and an amazing use of simple machines. I’m glad Rube Goldberg’s genius can be applied to apparatuses that do more than just shoot people.
