FREE Janelle Monae Concert at Social Media Week Los Angeles? You Bet.

By now, you’ve hopefully managed to check out Social Media Week Los Angeles, the week-long social media gala taking place from September 24th to the 28th. We’ve brought you coverage of some rad keynote speakers and a few can’t-miss online video events, but today we have to tell you about a particular event going down on Tuesday, September 25th. What would you say to seeing a bright young star (who releases awesome music videos!) that day, for free?

That’s right, it’s a free Janelle Monae concert! Don your nicest tux and your finest coif, because you’re about to have your face rocked by one of the country’s biggest R&B stars. That is, if you manage to make it down to Social Media Week. Over 2000 tickets will be available, and all you have to do to get yours is follow these three steps:

Subscribe to get the latest creator news

Subscribe

1. Pick a song here for an “Ultimate Playlist” to be played by a DJ at the concert

2. Tweet about it

3. Enter your information

That’s literally all it takes to get down with everyone’s favorite ArchAndroid. For comparison, it will cost you $47 dollars to see Monae open for Prince the next day in Chicago. But hey, these are the kind of opportunities you get when you are young (note: fans of all ages are allowed to attend).

If for some reason Janelle isn’t your jam, there are plenty of other music events you can check out at SMWLA. As I mentioned previously, one of the coolest keynotes at SMWLA will come from Beverly Jackson

, Director of Marketing for the Grammy Awards. She’s spoken at SMW before and clearly she was too interesting not to invite back for a second talk. Maybe she can tell you how your favorite artist can join the dozens of artists who get nominated for Grammys (including…Janelle Monae).

  • Register here for Beverly Jackon’s Keynote: Directing of Marketing & Social Media at the GRAMMY Awards

There will also be this talk on the difficulty of classifying music genres. Asher Roth will be there, so if you love college you should be there too. And, as I mentioned in my video event roundup, don’t miss this panel on how the music and video environments will change in a futuristic social and mobile media world. Check out the schedule to sign up for these and many other events.

Again, I just want to reiterate: Janelle Monae. Tuesday, September 25th. Free. Plenty of tickets to go around. Opportunities like this rarely come around, so if you’re around LA you had better complete those steps to be a part of it. And if you haven’t heard her music before, go ahead and give her a look-see. I think you’ll understand why this Social Media Week just got a lot more exciting.
