‘The Mercury Men’ EXCLUSIVE Scene

We’re on final countdown to Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego this week and for that matter, so is the much-anticipated noir sci-fi web series The Mercury Men. The series readies for its online debut a week from today on July 25 on Syfy.com,

It was January when fans finally learned the fate of this indie series, as creator Christopher Preksta secured a paid distribution deal with Syfy.com. The 10-episode series is set in an alternative history version of 1975 where aliens inhabit the other planets in our solar system. When pure-light beings from the planet Mercury invade earth, it is up to him and action-hero Jack Yaeger (Curt Wootton) to stop them.

We at Tubefilter talked Syfy into letting us show you an exclusive, never-before-released scene from The Mercury Men, and it’s a good one. All we really can say is, Light Bullets!

Preksta’s previous web series, Captain Blasto (also starring Wootton), was nominated for two Streamy Awards back in 2009, which helped fuel the buzz leading up to The Mercury Men

. The extra time before release has been a blessing for Preksta, who has been hard at work on a companion series highlighting the “digital props,” pieces of the show that live in the The Mercury Men story. There’s a crafty DIY feel to the experience, with many of the props involving more than a little printing and cutting handiwork from fans. Everything from retro trading cards, papercraft figures—even a retro Atari game.

Now, if you’re lucky enough to be trekking down to San Diego this week for Comic-Con, The Mercury Men has a panel on Friday, July 22 with Preksta and other Syfy creators as they premiere a full episode of the series.

9:00-11:00 Syfy Screening: Eureka, Haven, and Mercury Men— Imagine Greater with fellow fans during an advanced preview screening of the next all-new episode of Eureka, followed by a special presentation of an all-new Haven. And be sure to stick around for the exclusive premiere of the new digital series The Mercury Men. Introductions by Eric Balfour (Duke, Haven). Room 6A

Check back later today for our annual “Web Series Guide to Comic-Con” which outlines all of the web series related panels and events you can’t miss this week.
