Creators Tony Janning and Sandeep Parikh hosted a special edition of AtomTV on Comedy Central last night—the network owns Atom and has been increasing the interplay between the two platforms. Sure, Comedy Central gives its internet stepchild the late night munchies timeslot—2:00 AM ET/PT—but that’s what DVRs were made for right? And I can’t say I haven’t stumbled upon some late night LoN episodes on accident a few times.
We have a sneak peek at The Legend of Neil finale above, along with a glimpse of Janning and Parikh doing their finest hosting gig to date. It’s fitting, since their series has seen more appearances on AtomTV than any other Atom web series. The final season, Season 3, has already notched over 1.1 million views on the regular episodes, not counting the highly watchable gag reels and minisodes.
Season 2 of the Atom tentpole racked up an impressive number of Streamy Award nominations, striking a chord amongst voters for its creative twist on the gamer comedy. Despite a rather raunchy device for transporting Neil (Janning) into his game of Zelda, the series’ broader commentary on video game culture reaches beyond the adolescent male it seems to target. Anyone who has spent even a moment with an old school NES’ contradictory plotlines can appreciate the spot-on parody of Neil.
So before the finale, let’s all catch up on Season 3, which is the best one yet. Did Neil really get the fairy (played by Felicia Day) pregnant? Did they parody The Office in Episode 2?
